The essay question revolves around whether the UN has failed as an organization.
In the introduction, tell the reader where the essay will go, and the lens that will be used to explain the essay (Marxist lens)
Define failure and success in the UN: they have achieved some things and failed in some things (include this fact)
I would like for you to write a Marxist oriented answer, using two examples as to why the UN has failed.
These two examples include the civil war in Syria, and the Gulf War in Iraq. Try to explain these in a Marxist lens, and make these two examples back the fact that the UN has failed as an organization.
Make the argument of Western Hegemony in the UN, and how this creates a paradox, and how all the main countries that have seats in the UN veto and make decisions in order to achieve an ulterior motive, and this is a reason why the UN is failing. (if you have any other ideas include them, but do not write about any other countries to describe failure in the UN)
For both Syria and Iraq, stress the importance of the oil reserves in these countries. You have creative freedom just please follow my suggestions
Include a 500 word counter-argument that focuses on an example of how the UN has succeeded.
I will include some resources in order to guide you, and I have attached the assessment brief.
Use Harvard Style referencing.
Why did the Syrian crisis begin?
Why has the UN failed in aiding the country?
To what extent is this a product of Western imperialism and disproportionately-led hegemony within the UN?
You may also find the argument interesting that the United Nations is a tool of imperialism, which is clearly a Marxism explanation. To what extent is there an inherent irony that actors such as the UN, with a huge stake in the UN, are the actors calling for consistent humanitarian intervention in Syria, yet are the ones continually bombing these regions, stimulating conflict and articulating hegemony? To what extent is this a cover to justify imperialist ambitions abroad?
For each country/example, create a seperate section for it do not mix them together.
Use any resources you like, but please include these as well.
